Big Sister - Where is your National ID card? @annoy.com Burning the Flag ... "No other emblem or symbol in our nation carries with it such a specific
code of conduct in it's protocol for display and handling," Sen. Dianne
Feinstein (D-California) countered. "Why then, should it be permissible
conduct to burn, desecrate or destroy this symbol, this monument, this
national symbol? That's not my definition of free speech." CNN,
March 28, 2000 ... Representative Gary Ackerman (D-New York) said, "If
a jerk burns a flag, America is not threatened ... If a jerk burns a
flag, freedom is not at risk and we are not threatened." However, freedom
is threatened by those who would limit the First Amendment in order
to sanctify a symbol. The
Bill of Rights v. Old Glory by Wendy McElroy ``She is in the forefront of senators voting against the Internet'' Despite Silicon Valley's growing economic and political clout, a chorus of high-tech executives have complained that U.S. Senator Dianne Feinstein is unresponsive and, at times, hostile to their interests -- especially when it comes to the Internet. ``She is in the forefront of senators voting against the Internet,'' said Jerry Berman, executive director of the liberal Center for Democracy and Technology in Washington, D.C. ``On a scale of 1 to 10, in terms of being on the side of Internet freedom, she gets a 1.'' AK-47's and gun safety ... "There stood Dianne Feinstein, the anti-gun senator from California, posing for all the nation's media to capture on Kodachrome, holding an AK-47 with her finger firmly planted on the trigger." "Here's a woman so concerned about the supposed recklessness of gun manufacturers that she's calling for a ban on high-capacity ammunition magazines- the justification being little more than anecdotal evidence- who wouldn't know firearm safety if it bit her on the end of her upturned San Franciscan nose." Senator Dianne Feinstein Mishandles "Assault Rifle" in Public This affluent, wealthy, and influential member of the "liberal" elite says that people should not be allowed to own handguns, but, when she was threatened many years ago, she bought a pistol and got a permit to carry it in California. What she obviously means is that the little people- people who are not wealthy and influential Senators like herself- should not have the right to protect themselves from violent crime. "I'm Handgun Control International" It should not be necessary to remind us all, guns have a long and honorable history of keeping thieves, despots and officious yentas like Boxer and Feinstein from sending jack-booted people to break down doors in the dead of night and cart away other folk's property. Guns can prevent that. An Ak-47 is not only a means of defense, but also an effective confiscation deterrent. As the question is unlikely to arise in Congress, let me pose it here. Who the hell are Boxer and Feinstein to abridge anyone's right to be, or to do, or to own anything damn thing they please? By their adoration of a traitor, perjurer, pervert and assassin, they have forfeited the right to an opinion about religion, politics, or even the weather. As with their fellow Democrats, they have discerned something mathematicians Pythagoras and Euclid missed - that there is something lower than the lowest common denominator - and elected it President. Senators Dianne Feinstein (D-Calif.) and Richard Lugar (R-Ind.) have introduced legislation declaring that the United States should not recognize or provide aid to "a unilaterally declared Palestinian state." Then she voted to send our children to Bosnia against our will!!! Serbian Defense League Sen. Dianne Feinstein, who was the best friend of real estate developers and landlords when she was mayor of San Francisco, has developed a high national profile in the Senate. She was on everyone's short list as a Democratic vice presidential candidate. But her record hasn't improved a bit: She's still pro-big business, and now she's pro-big military and pro-globalization. And she supports almost every repressive crime bill that comes before her. Her record on defense and foreign policy includes voting for the $1.7 billion drug war military aid package to Columbia, supporting a national missile defense system, backing unfair trade laws like "NAFTA for Africa," and supporting China's admission to the World Trade Organization. She also voted to eliminate the estate tax, which would benefit wealthy Americans like Feinstein and her financier husband, Richard Blum, who are estimated to be worth more than $50 million (making her the fifth richest member of Congress). She voted for "Three Strikes" mandatory sentencing and strongly supports the death penalty. San Francisco Bay Guardian Endorsements US Senate Medea Benjamin Links Dianne
Feinstein @opensecrets.org Election 2000 Alternatives to Dianne Feinstein: Yahoo Internet Life called Dianne Feinstein one of the 5 Least Net-Friendly congress people [Nov 1999 issue]. She joins Rep Porter Goss (R-FL), Rep Bill McCollum (R-FL), Micheal Oxley (R-Ohio) and senator Orrin Hatch (R-UT) in this distinction. Yahoo Internet Life says, "Feinstein arguably has done more than any other senator to censor and regulate the Net. She repeatedly has attempted to ban bomb-making information, even though courts have ruled it's legal to publish it. She tried to make it a crime to discuss marijuana growing online -- or to link to drug related Web sites. And she has suggested banning encryption software that federal law enforcement officials can't monitor. It's not that anyone is for bomb-making or drug links, but that Feinstein's ham-fisted approach would be overly far-reaching." Dianne Feinstein's easy ride to re-election is over. Though Feinstein
remains the favorite, South Bay Rep. Tom Campbell's entry yesterday
into California's 2000 Senate race immediately transformed the sleepy
contest into a spirited showdown of national significance. Feinstein

| Why was this site created? | The first impetus for this page was Dianne Feinstein's support for the Communications and Decency Act. It has evolved into an experiment in how the Net might be used to provide more accurate information on an elected representative. I recall during the election hearing stories about how Ms. Feinstein had refinanced her house to get money for her campaign. This seems strange given her estimated net worth (with her husband) of 50 million dollars. One of the other ironies about Senator Feinstein is her husband, Richard Blum's longstanding friendship with the Dalai Lama and her hostility toward immigrants and support for a more "totalitarian" police presence. And this in a state which relies so heavily on immigrants - especially in the high-tech Silicon Valley. Perhaps it is time for a new vision. | |||
