Missourians handed John Ashcroft a dubious historical distinction Tuesday, making him the first senator ever to be defeated by a dead man. Late governor Mel Carnahan, riding an eleventh-hour surge of St. Louis city votes, led Ashcroft 50-49 percent with 86 percent of precincts reporting. Major news organizations nationwide were calling the race for Carnahan. Mel Carnahan died in a plane wreck while campaigning on Oct. 16. Roger Wilson, who became governor after the crash, said he would appoint Jean Carnahan if Mel Carnahan outpolled Ashcroft. The first lady later said she would accept the term which would expire under state law in 2002. Ashcroft ousted

In his 2 1/2 years in office, Attorney General John Ashcroft has earned himself a remarkable distinction as the Torquemada of American law. Tomas de Torquemada was the 15th century Dominican friar who became the grand inquisitor of the Spanish Inquisition. He was largely responsible for its methods, including torture and the burning of heretics - Muslims in particular. The new Inquisition -

The Two Faces of John Ashcroft - John Ashcroft has now been shoved down our throats as the U.S. Attorney General. He has always supported a Ultra Right Conservative Christian position especially when it comes to Church and State issues. It is apparent from the data collected, that the first amendment may be in danger from his past and future actions.

Who needs terrorists when we have John Ashcroft to scare us out of our pants? The way the attorney general detonated the “dirty bomber” case this week completes his metamorphosis from a common press hog to a genuine fear monger. That Ashcroft insisted that he had to scoop all the other terror warriors (Mssrs. Mueller, Wolfowitz and Thompson) and make the announcement about Jose Padilla, a.k.a. Abdullah Al Muhajir, in a panicky performance from Moscow shows what a camera-moth Ashcroft is. John Ashcroft: Minister of Fear

Much like the Nazis in Casablanca, John Ashcroft enjoys a good song -- as long as people remember their place.
Even before September 11, Attorney General John Ashcroft was a disaster waiting to happen. An evangelical fanatic with an agenda, Ashcroft was a man with a dream, or perhaps we should call it a vision, or perhaps it would be more accurately described as an undeniable mandate from God. rotten > Library > John Ashcroft

John Ashcroft v. the Constitution - Giving the FBI a ‘Blank Warrant’
Village Voice, November 26th, 2001 4:45 PM

To understand the extraordinary powers being sought by U.S. Attorney General John Ashcroft under the rubric of anti-terrorism legislation, one must know the process by which the Nazi emergency measures, the Notverordnungen, were established in early 1933, on the pretext of the Reichstag fire.Ashcroft Seeks Hitler-Style Dictatorship Measures by Edward Spannaus

Bush's borrowing liberally from Hitler's play book was not lost on Germany's former Justice Minister Herta Daeubler-Gmelin, who last September said Bush wanted a war with Iraq to divert attention from domestic problems. She added, "That's a popular method. Even Hitler did that." Bush and Hitler, the Unappetizing Similarities

Early in August, Ashcroft proposed a Camp that would allow him to order indefinite incarceration of U.S citizens, stripping them of their constitutional rights and access to attorneys, merely by declaring them to be enemy combatants, His proposal is related to two test cases. That of Jose Padilla and Yaser Hamdi, who are both U.S> citizens, and are being held incommunicado without charges. It is quite clear that this action runs counter to constitutional guarantees and is frighteningly similar to the fascistic tactics of Hitler.Hitler...Bush...listen, there are some eerie parallels

In mid-August 2002 U.S. Attorney-General John Ashcroft announced a plan that would give him the legal right to order the indefinite incarceration of U.S. citizens and remove from them their constitutional rights and access to the courts by declaring them "enemy combatants". “An evil exists that threatens every man, woman and child of this great nation. We must take steps to insure our domestic security and protect our homeland." Sound familiar? Which of the following made the above quote: President George W. Bush, U.S. Attorney General John Ashcroft, Homeland Security Czar Tom Ridge, or Secretary of State Colin Powell? Our Big Brother, John Ashcroft

The protections of the Fourth Amendment are clear. The right to protection from unlawful searches is an indivisible American value. Two hundred years of court decisions have stood in defense of this fundamental right. The state's interest in effective crime-fighting should never vitiate the citizens' Bill of Rights.KEEP BIG BROTHER'S HANDS OFF THE INTERNET - By Senator John Ashcroft

Attorney General John Ashcroft stated under oath, through one of his deputies, that admitted, U.S. Federal Judge James M. Ideman attempted to murder, with the help of two U.S. Marshals, filmmaker Gyorgy Fodor. However, Judge Ideman and his co-conspirators, including Chief Justice Rehnquist, trying to cover up these capital crimes, are nonetheless protected by the Doctrine of Judicial Immunity. Such stance of General Ashcroft places him alongside Otto Thierack, Adolf Hitler's Reich Minister of Justice. Indeed, Reich Minister Thierack and General Ashcroft have both brought the Judiciary under the direct control of the State. Such criminal conduct is a crime against humanity.

Oh, John Ashcroft is the new A.G.,
A fact that we find quite scary.
The Fourth Reich is Ashcroft's goal.
Let 'em know! Let 'em know! Let 'em know!

He's glad to clamp down on your right
To speak your own mind and to fight.
Don't want to be Bush's ho's,
Let 'em know! Let 'em know! Let 'em know!

When he really gets up to speed,
He will take us up to heaven's door,
He's got every thing he could need:
Crisco and old Christian lore!

He's dangerous and so creepy.
He hopes everyone is sleepy.
Not a Bushie? Then you're a foe.
Let 'em know! Let 'em know! Let 'em know!

Let 'Em Know! Let 'Em Know! Let 'Em Know!

Well, I was feelin' sad and feelin' blue,
I didn't know what in the world I was gonna do,
Them Terrorists they wus comin' around,
They wus in the air,
They wus on the ground.
They wouldn't gimme no peace. . .

So I run down most hurriedly
And joined up with the John Ashcroft Society,
I got me a secret membership card
And started off a-walkin' down the road.
Yee-hoo, I'm a real John Ashcrofter now!
Look out you Terrorists!

Now we all agree with Hitlers' views,
Although he killed six million Jews.
It don't matter too much that he was a Fascist,
At least you can't say he was a Terrorist!
That's to say like if you got a cold you take a shot of malaria.

Talkin' John Ashcroft Paranoid Blues

Fiore Presents: Patriot Act Summer Tour - animated cartoon

John Ashcroft and his wife Janet arrive at the U.S. Supreme Court for his swearing-in ceremony. John and Janet Ashcroft have three children: Martha, John and Andrew, and one grandchild, Jimmy Patterson.

Janet Ashcroft: In her own words

Our daughter, Martha Patterson, is 32 and living in Kansas City with her husband and our grandchild (who is the most spectacular grandchild in the world). Our son Jay (we call him "Jay" to distinguish him from his dad — his first name is John) is 28, an engineer and is teaching at Forrest Park Community College in St. Louis. And our son Andy is 24 and in the Navy and stationed in Jacksonville, Fla.

The events of September 11 have led to such a return to the need for faith. I don’t think John’s going to be criticized for having a Bible study in his office before work time anymore.

"John is a man of such principle that — and I'm an American citizen, too. This is the kind of man I want in the attorney general's office. He is a man of integrity and decency and honesty, and compassion." -
